Hey As some of you might know, I'm studying Graphic Design, and while I'm most of the time the minimalistic typographical designer, some times I decide to illustrate as well.
In this project I thought illustrations might be the way to go with. The assignment was, to design a paper bag for "suhrkamp", a big intellectual book publisher in germany who is having its 60 year anniversary. I wanted to use pictures of the authors and we client wanted me to use book-titles as well. Since I wanted to create something contraire to their usual looks, and since all the photos of the authors were too old and boring to use, I decided to illustrate over those photos, to give them a fresh look.
The book titles are flying out of their heads, as if you could see how they are thinking.
This is only a dummy, not the final product. The typography is super sketchy, but it's enough for the pitch to make them decide of they want it or not.
The authors you can see on this paperbag are: Max Frisch, Bertold Brecht, Ernst Bloch, Adorno, Walter von Benjamin, Thomas Mann, Hermann Hesse und Franz Kafka.
If they decide to use it, it gets printed 200.000 times.

.. i think it's bloody brilliant .. the color pallet is new and interesting as far as a book publisher might go.. Seems most book/literature designs tend to lean more towards the antique/attic feel... this is a great departure from that .. They would be making a very bad decision not to go with this fresh idea..
I love it. It's a very attractive layout. The like the fact your only sticking with one font type while adjusting the size. I hate it when clients give old photos, it puts you in a fine line box. But I gotta say this dummy version is very well done. Good job!

You're execution of the colors as well as coloring technique are well thought out since they make the illustration jump out. Pretty bold :3
I love how you handle the text, it's fun, readable and eye catching. It certainty makes me interested in checking out those authors.
